The main mission of CNRRI is to help China enhance food security, improve nutrition, protect environment, and eliminate poverty through rice research. CNRRI focuses on solving significant scientific and technical problems in rice production through basic and applied research. The institute prioritizes rice genetics and genomics research that may be useful for improving rice yield, grain quality, pest resistance, and stress tolerance as well as focuses on the conservation and utilization of rice germplasm resources. Moreover, the institute is developing environmentally-friendly and cost-efficient rice cultivation technologies.
