China National Rice Research Institute (CNRRI) is an integrative national research institute of rice science. Its Major research fields include rice genetics and breeding, rice germplasm resources, rice farming techniques and environment, rice genomics, agricultural product quality standards and techniques, etc. CNRRI owns a number of technology innovation service platforms, such as State Key Laboratory of Rice Biology, China National Center for Rice Improvement, Rice Product Quality Inspection & Supervision Testing Center of MOA, Transgenic Safety Testing Center of MOA and China-IRRI Joint Research Center on Rice Quality and Nutrition. Various national major scientific research projects have been conducted here in CNRRI.

CNRRI ranks top on MOA’s National Super Rice Research and Demonstration Units, constructing the National Rice Industrial Technology System and the National Southern Rice Areas Regional Trial Program. It has achieved a series of honors, including China National Award for Natural Sciences, China National Award for Technological Invention, China National Award for Progress in Science and Technology. The annual application area of its scientific achievements reaches 10 million ha, which has created massive social and economic benefits, as well as laid a solid scientific foundation for future yield increase. During the "tenth five year-plan", CNRRI ranked top in terms of the comprehensive capacity for scientific research among China’s agricultural research institutions.
